Frequently Asked Questions

It stands for Application Programming Interface and could be explained as the digital bridge that enables software systems to share data between each other, all automated. APIs enable system-to-system communication.

Working with Volvo Penta should be easy. We offer API based solutions for system-to-system integrations, where for example a partner's business system could get connected to Volvo Penta systems.

It is possible to test an API from this Developer Portal.

When looking at the details of an API you will see a list of the operations contained in the API. This will show the verb and path to use for the operation.

If you click on the operation you will see more information about it, what parameters it might take, what it returns, what possible return codes it might use and what they mean.

There is also a 'Try' button on REST APIs which enables you to try the operation out direct from the Developer Portal.

If the API requires a client ID or a client secret for identification then you can specify these using your application credentials at the top of the 'Try' section.

There is a diverse range of applications that commonly leverage APIs to enhance functionality and provide additional features. As a partner to Volvo Penta this could mean an enterprise system, ecommerce platform, customer portal or fleet management tool.

Many types of solutions can integrate to APIs, but they could be prepared differently. For some systems it is a matter of settings, for others there might be development needed. In most cases, this is achievable, and for an IT professional, the task is straightforward.

No sign in is needed. Please have a look at the APIs described under API Products. Let us know your interest by filling in the form under Contact and we'll be in touch.
